Bringing Medical Device Concepts to Reality with 3D Printing at Hardware Park

At Hardware Park, 3D printing is a significant part of how we help medical device technology companies bring their concepts into reality.

We utilize a range of 3D printers to support projects from the initial sketching phase all the way through to concept and testing-ready parts.

Rapid Prototyping with Dependable Consumer-Grade Printers

The first step in many projects involves our Bamboo X1 Carbon machines.

While these are generally considered more consumer-grade printers, we find them to be incredibly dependable. We can set a part running overnight and know that we won't come to work the next morning to a "pile of plastic spaghetti on the plate".

We use these machines to create "sketch parts". Early in the design process, when you're figuring out what a part should look like, how it should fit, and what features it should have, you can model it and print it out quickly. If the part isn't right, you can simply remodel and try again.

This allows for quick iterations, costing only a little bit of time and a little bit of plastic.

Advanced Materials for Concept-Ready Parts

When the parts are ready to move beyond the initial sketch stage, we transition to other on-site printers that help us create more concept-ready and testing-ready parts.

Our advanced capabilities include a printer that:

  • Prints in carbon fiber impregnated nylon, which makes for great, strong parts
  • Can also print with continuous fiber, including fiberglass and carbon fiber.8

Additionally, we have a resin-based printer that offers two main advantages:

  • It allows us to print in many different materials.
  • It achieves really fine details that some of the filament-based printers can't deliver.

If you're an engineer, designer, or founder with a medical tech device idea, come talk to us at Hardware Park. We'd love to find out how we can help bring your ideas into reality.
